Asan Memorial Dental College and Hospital was founded in the year 2011. The college is affiliated with Tamil Nadu Dr M G R Medical University. The college is approved by the Government of Tamil Nadu and recognized by the Dental Council of India. The college is surrounded by hills and valleys. A pollution-free area which provides a good site for education.

They have the best faculty and the infrastructure to provide the best education for the students and also the best treatment facilities. They had done their best to achieve the dream of the students. They provide both BDS AND MDS courses in the college. The courses are under the Dental Council of India.

The college has a well-equipped instrument and infrastructure. Talking about the trust Shri A K Gopalan is the chairman and the founder secretary of the institution. Along with his friends, he has built up an eminent figure and established an independent memorial for Mahakavi Kumaran Asan in the city of Madras.

In the initial days, they had set up 5 classrooms. ASAN Memorial Senior Secondary School was open in the year 1966 on June 27th. Later on, the building was converted into a three-storey building which was for the main school and a four-storey building which was for the primary section with a library and auditorium.

After many long years in 1969, the school got affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education, it was called the first CBSE School in Chennai city.

In the beginning days, they had only 24 students and 2 teachers. Now at present, they have around 3200 students in the school that is from the LKG to 12th standard.

The college is under the private sector and there is no government sector or any funding agencies meeting their expenses or the expenditure.

Talking about the ASAN Memorial Association, the chairman and the founder Shri A K Gopalan who have an experience of around 60 years in this institution is the founder of ASAN Memorial Trust.

DEPARTMENT OF ANATOMY

The department of anatomy is well equipped with all modern facilities and equipment for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. They also have laboratories with new equipment.

The department was started in the year 2011. The anatomy department contains histology specimens and slides. Anatomy is taught to first-year students and the labs are used by undergraduates.

Histology slides are routinely used in the department with the help of slides.

The major exercise done by the department is cadaver dissection, histology tissue processing, specimen preparation, and special training for undergraduate research.

DEPARTMENT OF PHYSIOLOGY

Department of Physiology students is taught to learn basic knowledge about physiology such as principles of normal biology functions, in a wide range of organism.

They develop the idea of doing basic research. The basic functioning of the human body and its role is learned.

DEPARTMENT OF BIOCHEMISTRY

Classes are taught in PowerPoint presentations. Histopathology slides, specimens, principles and procedures of laboratory tests are used for patient care in practical classes and make them undergo this practice.

ASAN Dental College and Hospital have well-equipped 3 conventional intra-oral units with digital compatibility. They also have advanced imaging modalities.

Apart from this in the Radiology department, they have panoramic and cephalometric radiography.

DEPARTMENT OF ORAL AND MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY

Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery deals with diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of diseases such as temporomandibular joint disorders, salivary gland disorders, extraction of wisdom teeth impaction, minor surgery, orthognathic surgery, TMJ disorders, orofacial pain dysfunction etc.

The department has a total of 35 dental chairs, along with a minor surgical room, recovery room, sterilization room, etc.

Department posting starts from the third year onwards and the students are asked to take up the cases such as simple extraction, alveoloplasty, assessing the dental cases etc.

DEPARTMENT OF ORAL PATHOLOGY

Department of Oral Pathology deals with thorough knowledge of the anatomy of each tooth and the histopathology of the tooth. Oral pathology is learned in first-year and third-year classes.

At the first, they are taught how to carve the teeth and learned the histopathology of various dental tissues. There are around 400 ground sections made by the students in the department, 78 oral histology slides, 86 oral pathology teaching slides, 57 monocular illuminated microscopes and 1 trinocular microscope.

DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH DENTISTRY

Department of Public Health Dentistry deals with how to prevent and control diseases. The promotion of oral health care, education, research and the group dental care program.

The college is having their own mobile dental van, tobacco cessation clinic, free basic dental services etc.

Department conducts various activities such as the conducts various dental camps such as proper brushing techniques, oral hygiene practices etc.

The department has a fully equipped rural health care clinic in thirukazhukundram town.

Recently they conducted a CDE program on ANTIDIABETIC DRUGS IN CANCER POTENTIAL AND CHALLENGES. The program was attended by doctors, lecturers, students, and the staff of the institution.

DEPARTMENT OF GENERAL MEDICINE

Oral health care is very important in day-to-day life. Even many individuals are affected by many systemic diseases. All these people will also be affected by dental problems. It must learn how to treat, that’s why general medicine is included here. General medicine is taught in the third year. They will be having practical hours where they are supposed to go to nearby medical colleges and take up the cases.

There will be three internal exams and university exams conducted by the college.

In their curriculum, they give special emphasis to cardiovascular disorders, endocrine disorders, metabolic disorders, respiratory disorders, renal disease, and blood dyscrasias.

DEPARTMENT OF GENERAL SURGERY

In General Surgery students are taught about principles of General Surgery and Common Surgical Procedures, evaluation of the patients in the wards for general anaesthetic techniques and management of emergencies along with intravenous sedation taught.

Along with the theory classes they are supposed to attend practical classes. For this, they have Government Chengalpattu Medical College and Hospital for giving live demos to the students of BDS studying in General Surgery.
