V S Dental College and Hospital Bangalore is an educational Institution owned and managed by Rajya Vokkalingara Sangha Karnataka.
V S Dental College and Hospital Bangalore also VSDC&H. The college was established in the year 1986. College is affiliated Bangalore University. In the beginning for undergraduate there was only intake of 52 students later on it got increased to 100. The seats for MDS was started in the 2001-2002, the present intake of the seats are 38. Apart from this they also have PG Diploma courses and many certificate courses in certain subjects such as Esthetic Dentistry and Implantology this was started in the year 2009-2010.
Taking about the affiliation of the college, the college is affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Science Bangalore Karnataka.
Their motto is to provide knowledge and development in the field of dentistry. Also to provide excellence in the field oral health education, research and innovative care practices.

College is affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Science and the college got its recognitions from Dental Council of India in the year 1992. Apart from undergraduate they also provide post graduate studies to the students since the year 2001 in all departments of dentistry.

In third year for medical subjects such as General Medicine and General Surgery college have tie up with the medical college KIMS campus. The hospital has a good flow of patients around 300 to 500 per day.

A brief description about each department is given below.
- DEPARTMENT OF ORAL MEDICINE AND RADIOLOGY
Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology deals with the diagnoses of diseases such as dental caries, salivary gland disorders, temporomandibular joint disorders, orofacial pain, mucosal lesion, systemic and the local diseases affecting the oral cavity.
Apart from this they are taught to learn about radiology. How to take X ray and diagnosing of the cases.
They are also taught about the hazards of radiation, the basics of radiation and the protective aids.
Interruption of results such as computed tomography, ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging, PET SCAN positron emission tomography.
They have a well qualified faculty.
- DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH DENTISTRY
Department of Public Health Dentistry deals with health of oral cavity of different preventive and curative activities in the department. They conduct various dental camps to the people in both urban and rural areas. The camps conducted are related to oral hygiene program, different brushing techniques etc.
They have two satellite centers for the checkup; they conduct the dental program once in every month. Their main aim is to promote health and treatment.
Department of Public Health Dentistry in V S Dental College has a well equipped mobile dental van with two dental chairs. This helps the dental health team to reach out their camp area.
Oral health education is provided in the museum attached to the department which is also equipped with the audio visual aids.
They also have a tobacco cessation counseling center in the department.
- DEPARTMENT OF ORAL AND MAXILLOFACILA SURGERY
Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery were started in the year 1986. Oral and maxillofacial surgery in V S Dental College has made a remarkable landmark in the field of dentistry in Bangalore city.
Various cases such as cancer including the cyst, tumor, various infections of the maxillofacial region. The college is attached to KIMS hospital Bangalore. They provide the best primary care to cases such as maxillofacial trauma.
The trauma cases such as midfacial and mandibular trauma are also done. The daily outpatient of the department is 30 to 40 minor cases where the cases are done under the supervision of the faculties.
The cases done by the undergraduates include extraction, alveoloplasty and assisting of minor cases.
The postgraduates are taught to learn starting from simple extraction to complex surgical procedure. Apart from this they are also trained in departments like General Medicine, General Surgery, Emergency medicine, ENT and Plastic Surgery.
- DEPARTMENT OF PROSTHODONTICS CROWN AND BRIDGE
Department of crown and bridge deals with replacement of loosed teeth due to caries or due to trauma.
They mainly deals with clinical works such as removable partial dentures, complete partial dentures, fixed partial denture, maxillofacial prosthesis, Implant prosthesis.
Department posting starts from third year onwards. They are supposed to take up cases like replacement missing teeth ie removable partial denture and complete partial denture.
Postgraduate have programs such as seminars, journal club, survey, bench works, inter departmental meeting, clinical practices, and demonstrations.
Apart from this research projects are done along with their course. Currently there are 14 projects completed and ongoing projects are 6.
PhD program are also done in the department. There are around 12 teaching faculties in the department. There are three professors, two readers, four lectures. Three nurse staffs, two attender, six dental mechanics, and two lectures with BDS qualification.
- DEPARTMENT OF PERIODONTICS
Department of Periodontics deals with periodontium and diseases associated with the periodontium.
They mainly deal with the gingiva, periodontal ligaments, bone and cementum.
Posting for undergraduate starts from third year onwards. Initial days they are taught to learn about scaling and they will be having quota.
BDS is a five year course and MDS is three years course.
Department of periodontics mainly deals with etiology, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases of periodontium in adults. They also include surgical placement of implant. Their main aim is to train in the under grauduate and post graduate students and also to raise their standard in the field of dentistry. They train the dental specialist in the field of dentistry. They educate and facilitate the dental practices.
DEPARTMENT OF PEDODONTICS AND PREVENTIVE DENTISTRY
Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry deals with health of infants and children and children with special needs.
Their main aim is to promote and educate the children different brushing habits, oral hygiene practices etc.
The department is so friendly environment and they have staff who are well trained in child behaviour management.
For undergraduate students posting starts from third year onwards. They are supposed to take up the cases and some preclinical works.
Treatments are done in conscious sedation. This method is done for children who are feared.
DEPARTMENT OF ORTHODONTICS AND DENTOFACILA ORTHOPEDICS
Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics deals with correction of malaligned teeth.
Department has separate undergraduate and postgraduate section and the postgraduate clinic contain 9 chairs.
They have undergraduate laboratory, postgraduate laboratory, lecture halls, record session, seminar halls etc.
BDS is a five year course. They are taught to learn about case discussion, practical training, clinical training etc.
The post graduate program was started in the year 2001. The postgraduates are supposed to do seminars, journal clubs, preclinical work, surveys, demonstration, clinical practices, researches etc.
Research program and PhD program are also done in the department. They have a future plan to develop Teledentistry and Teleorthodontics. They also have a plan to setup growth center.
DEPARTMENT OF ORAL IMPLANTOLOGY
Department of Oral Implantology have connection with all the departments such as prosthodontics, oral and maxillofacial surgery and periodontics.
They are best in communicating the patients effectively. They carry out surgical treatment and restorative treatment and makes the patient aesthetically and functionally stabilized.
They have a good faculty to monitor the cases and maintain the treatment.
Talking about the rules and regulation, students must have 75 percentage of attendance in theory and 75 percentage of attendance in practical exams.
Talking about the facilities they have separate boys and girls hostel.
They have a huge library with stocks of books, guides, magazines, question banks etc.
Their main aim is to educate the students in formal and informal way. To implement latest technology to the students. They also have a digital library.
They provide latest information to the students.
